Underground Films and ACS decided to come together to experiment with Camera Shots. To do this we used a Dolly and we demonstrated a variety of shots, some of which we had already used last year in A2 and others that were new to us.

Once we have finished our Trailer we then have to think about the marketing of our film. For this, I looked at a variety of different film posters which I thought were effective.
The second convention of thriller posters that I noticed was the layout of the poster and the font used for the title and other text. The majority of the time the main title is at the bottom of the poster and the subject of the poster is usually the protagonist of the movie. In the images of the posters above, you can see a pattern where the poster gives a way a bit of the film with either a question or a statement: 'Who do you trust?' What will you sound like when you die?' 'Someone is missing' All of these conventions are what we will take into account when creating our ancillary task. This way it is clear to our audience what genre our film is an it gives them an idea on what our film will be about. The Devil Inside Poster AnalysisThe Silence of the Lambs Poster AnalysisHere are some images that we posted on our Instagram of the first day of filming our trailer. My group and I all came together at our friend Summer's house. We felt that her house had the right kind of setting, especially her bathroom. We needed to use her shower as she had a clear shower door and myself, Issey and Tia don't have one. This was essential as we needed it for the scene where Chelsea is in the shower and the stalker is creeping up behind her. We posted videos of the filming that we did. This way, the audience who were interested to know more about the film, could look at the behind the scenes. Snapchat is a great use of promotion and advertisement as its such a popular app, and its easily accessible. Therefore, potential viewers of the film can be reminded of the film every now and then. Below you can see our Snapchat Story from the day. To gain inspiration and an insight on how magazine covers are laid out, and what the average magazine cover shows, I looked at various film magazines. From looking at these different magazine covers it has made it easier for me to come up with ideas for when my group create a magazine cover for our film. Below, I have analysed two of my favourite covers from from Empire Magazine. Empire - Suicide SquadEmpire - InceptionOur group has decided to create an Instagram so that we could post images of the development of our work and also market our film when it comes to making posters and magazine covers. We have also followed as many media related accounts we could find (mostly film productions) so that we could also gain inspiration whenever we are logged onto the account. Above you can see a picture of all of us brainstorming ideas and making a rough sketch of our storyboard before we made the real thing on StoryBoardThat.com. We will carry on posting images of whilst we are filming our trailer.
We added new images of ourselves filming our product onto our Instagram account. We also added a video so that our followers could get a glimpse of the live action. It also allows us our potential audience to connect with us more as a company.
Music is important in a trailer, it helps the audience feel emotive towards what is being portrayed on screen through the acting of the cast. The emotions we wanted to create during our trailer was the feeling of uncertainty and being on-edge. In my opinion I feel that the rhythm of the soundtrack in the trailer is the most important element. When my group had to decide which song we wanted to use and manipulate we all came to the conclusion to use Crazy by Gnarls Barkley. We came to this decision because we thought that the lyrics in the song were suited to the theme of the plot of our trailer, as Chelsea's character is convinced that she is having some deranged thoughts in our movie. We then went to look for an acoustic version of the song as we wanted the soundtrack in our trailer to be a little less upbeat. The acoustic version of Crazy which we found on youtube was edited by Tia in Garage Band on her Apple Mac where she changed the pitch and the tempo. This made the song song eerie, and it created a sombre atmosphere due to how slowly the lyrics were sung, and the guitar music.
Below is a screenshot of our soundtrack being edited in Garage Band. ![]() Our trailer includes a phone call that Chelsea has with her sister. In order for it to sound like Chelsea was on the phone to her sister we had to take the voice notes that we had recorded into FinalCutPro. Here we could cut out the parts which we had recorded that we didn't need. We also added the 'Telephone' effect so that the phone call was more realistic. I made the ending 'credits' of our trailer. This included the season that our film is going to come out in and the year. It also let's the potential audience of the film know that the film will be available to watch in both real 3D and IMAX 3D. A film produced specifically in IMAX will use film stock that is twice as big as 35mm, and a frame size four times as big. This allows the camera to capture far more detail than usual. They also use a special Digital process to blow the 35mm negative up to their IMAX stock sized without blowing up the flaws and grain so you get a larger, more impressive experience. They also use a far more powerful sound system. The fact that the production company (us) have stated that our film will be available in IMAX, can increase the amount of people who want to watch it due to the quality of IMAX films and the reputation IMAX holds. ![]() I also added the social media logos onto the credits as it makes people aware that you can catch up with all the behind the scenes. It also enables them to not only find out other information about the film, but it also allows people to interact with each other and create discussions on the film. To edit our trailer we utilized Final Cut Pro on the apple macs at our school. We thought that Final Cut Pro was the better software to use in comparison to iMovie as we thought it was a lot easier to cut and paste our clips using Final Cut. At first we had a lot of random clips and when we watched all of them back we realized that we didn't actually need to use them all. We were also looking to make a teaser trailer rather than a normal length trailer so we had to cut the clips short anyway. Firstly, we cut all of the clips we wanted to used and then we put them in order - we used our storyboard to do this so we had a better idea on the plot. After the first clip shown in our trailer, we put in our production company logo, which was made by Tia using After Effects. Our trailer includes the name of our company - Underground Films, and a short clip of a train in a tunnel that Tia found on a GIF website. My group decided on using the train because we thought it fit well with the name of our production company, therefore, personally, I feel that this way our name is much more memorable and recognizable. In one of the clips that are in our trailer we managed to capture Chelsea getting off the train, as in this shot you can see a Winston Churchill poster with one of his famous quotes. 'We must not loose our faculty to dare, particularly in dark days.' This has allowed us to create an enigma code in our trailer, as it makes the audience ask questions, especially because the quote talks about 'dark days'. This theme fits perfectly with the genre of our film - thriller. Once we had put all of these clips in order, we added the soundtrack (Crazy). This plays from start till the end apart from when there is a short interval when the trailer breaks down just before all of the quick cuts. At the start of the trailer, we can hear Crazy being played in what sounds like Milly's headphones, then the soundtrack changes and you can just hear the song normally. We thought that this technique would be effective as we thought the smooth transition from Chelsea listening to the song in her earphones to the song being used as the soundtrack allowed us to use more skill in our editing. We also transported the audio that I edited beforehand of Chelsea's phone call with her sister. We had to arrange the clips so that they went with the audio. We decided to use this clip above of Chelsea's head turning round as she replies 'NO!' to her sister. We thought that the intensity of her emotion in her face worked well with the aggressive reply. After this shot the screen then goes black and you hear Chelsea say 'Hello?' and then we inserted a hang up tone to indicate that her sister wasn't on the phone anymore. My group also decided to put a layer on top of all of our clips. The reason for doing this was because the majority of thriller film trailers that we watched had a different tone added, very few were just filmed in broad daylight. I think that the reason why producers do this is to create that mysterious, sombre atmosphere. You will rarely see a trailer for a horror film feature bright yellows or pinks, for example. An example of a trailer that has used this is 'Girl On The Train'. Our trailer ends like any normal thriller trailer would, normally with a climatic stage where all the quick cuts are shown one after another. This was where we showed all of the 'action' shots. These shots are usually the ones that give away a few dramatic parts in the film - these scenes are also the ones which make the audience want to watch the film even more, because they are curious to know what happens. We faded the music in and out a few times in our trailer. This was because we wanted the music to be intense at particular times more than others. When the quick cuts are playing there is no music playing (crazy) but when the title is shown it comes back. We thought we would do this because we found that it worked well in other trailers such as the 'Fifty Shades Of Gray' trailer and Beyonce's 'Crazy In Love'. Above is the title of the trailer which is revealed at the end. This animated title was created by Tia with the use of AfterEffects. She edited it so that the title actually moves and smoke even comes off of it. After, the credits with our social media links is shown, this was made by me using Adobe Photoshop.
