To edit our trailer we utilized Final Cut Pro on the apple macs at our school. We thought that Final Cut Pro was the better software to use in comparison to iMovie as we thought it was a lot easier to cut and paste our clips using Final Cut. At first we had a lot of random clips and when we watched all of them back we realized that we didn't actually need to use them all. We were also looking to make a teaser trailer rather than a normal length trailer so we had to cut the clips short anyway. Firstly, we cut all of the clips we wanted to used and then we put them in order - we used our storyboard to do this so we had a better idea on the plot. After the first clip shown in our trailer, we put in our production company logo, which was made by Tia using After Effects. Our trailer includes the name of our company - Underground Films, and a short clip of a train in a tunnel that Tia found on a GIF website. My group decided on using the train because we thought it fit well with the name of our production company, therefore, personally, I feel that this way our name is much more memorable and recognizable. In one of the clips that are in our trailer we managed to capture Chelsea getting off the train, as in this shot you can see a Winston Churchill poster with one of his famous quotes. 'We must not loose our faculty to dare, particularly in dark days.' This has allowed us to create an enigma code in our trailer, as it makes the audience ask questions, especially because the quote talks about 'dark days'. This theme fits perfectly with the genre of our film - thriller. Once we had put all of these clips in order, we added the soundtrack (Crazy). This plays from start till the end apart from when there is a short interval when the trailer breaks down just before all of the quick cuts. At the start of the trailer, we can hear Crazy being played in what sounds like Milly's headphones, then the soundtrack changes and you can just hear the song normally. We thought that this technique would be effective as we thought the smooth transition from Chelsea listening to the song in her earphones to the song being used as the soundtrack allowed us to use more skill in our editing. We also transported the audio that I edited beforehand of Chelsea's phone call with her sister. We had to arrange the clips so that they went with the audio. We decided to use this clip above of Chelsea's head turning round as she replies 'NO!' to her sister. We thought that the intensity of her emotion in her face worked well with the aggressive reply. After this shot the screen then goes black and you hear Chelsea say 'Hello?' and then we inserted a hang up tone to indicate that her sister wasn't on the phone anymore. My group also decided to put a layer on top of all of our clips. The reason for doing this was because the majority of thriller film trailers that we watched had a different tone added, very few were just filmed in broad daylight. I think that the reason why producers do this is to create that mysterious, sombre atmosphere. You will rarely see a trailer for a horror film feature bright yellows or pinks, for example. An example of a trailer that has used this is 'Girl On The Train'. Our trailer ends like any normal thriller trailer would, normally with a climatic stage where all the quick cuts are shown one after another. This was where we showed all of the 'action' shots. These shots are usually the ones that give away a few dramatic parts in the film - these scenes are also the ones which make the audience want to watch the film even more, because they are curious to know what happens. We faded the music in and out a few times in our trailer. This was because we wanted the music to be intense at particular times more than others. When the quick cuts are playing there is no music playing (crazy) but when the title is shown it comes back. We thought we would do this because we found that it worked well in other trailers such as the 'Fifty Shades Of Gray' trailer and Beyonce's 'Crazy In Love'. Above is the title of the trailer which is revealed at the end. This animated title was created by Tia with the use of AfterEffects. She edited it so that the title actually moves and smoke even comes off of it. After, the credits with our social media links is shown, this was made by me using Adobe Photoshop.
